Kimpton Clocktower - Ballroom

The Kimpton Clocktower Ballroom – Manchester

Originally built as the headquarters of the Refuge Assurance Company — affectionately known locally as the “Refuge Building” or “The Refuge” — this iconic Grade II* listed landmark has been carefully restored into one of Manchester’s most impressive event spaces. The building’s history is full of intrigue, including the discovery of a hidden room during renovation works — untouched for decades and filled with items from its time as the Co-operative and Refuge offices, a striking reminder of its layered past.

Today, the Ballroom stands as the hotel’s showpiece — a vast, elegant space that combines historic grandeur with contemporary event technology. With soaring ceilings, ornate period detailing, and exceptional flexibility, it’s a favourite for large-scale gatherings, corporate events, and celebrations.

This is another venue we have created in 3D, to plan lighting, staging and technical setup. Images of these virtual renders are below on this page!
